The Alters: How to restore Jan's suit energy?
Running out of suit energy can make it difficult for you to run the game in The Alters. From this page of the guide you will learn what activities consume batteries and how to renew the energy supply of the main character's outfit.

How to regenerate Jan's suit energy? This question may come up often during The Alters. We've covered this topic in detail in our guide - we explain what the maximum energy limit of the suit is, when can energy be consumed, how to permanently increase the energy supplies and how to automatically or manually recharge the suit.
- How to check the current energy level?
- What actions consume suit energy?
- How to charge Jan's suit?
- How to extend the energy bar?
How to check the current energy level?
- Suit energy is one of the most important parameters describing the main character's outfit. You can check the current energy status in the lower left corner of the screen. It's displayed next to the radiation meter. By default, your suit has 6 energy bars.
What actions consume suit energy?
Here are the most important activities that consume energy:
- Using a climbing hook - consumes two energy bars per use. In some locations, you can look for an alternate path that doesn't require the climbing hook.
- Sending scan waves - an optional activity that can speed up scanning deposits. You don't have to do this, you can instead just stick scanning probes into the ground without any energy use.
- Using a luminator - It's a special gadget that you will unlock later in the first act. It is used on anomalies, and the energy sent by the illuminator is drawn from your suit.
Check the Research tab often and read the descriptions of new technologies. Some of them may limit energy consumption so that, for example, over time you can reduce the cost of activating the climbing hook by 1.
How to charge Jan's suit?
- After losing all energy you can go to the charging station. You will find them at constructed mining outposts and travel pylons, as well as next to the entrance to the main base.
- One benefit of using the station is that recharging the suit is free. There are two cons though - you have to reach the station first, and recharging takes time. The need to recharge can limit the amount of tasks you can perform on a given day.
- The suit's energy is also automatically restored at the end of the day. You will start every day with a full supply of energy.
- You can also recharge your suit by using disposable Suit Batteries. You can craft them in the workshop and it's always good to have at least one on you. Choose them (from the drop-down menu) in critical situations, such as encountering a climbing wall while being far from the base and Mining Outposts.
- Crafting one battery costs 40 organics, but you can develop a research project called Cheaper Batteries - it's available at level 1 of the research laboratory and reduces the cost of battery production by 50%.
How to extend the energy bar?
- After making enough progress in the main storyline and investigating one of the anomalies on the planet, you will unlock the Suit Upgrade research project. It requires the use of a unique resource called planetary samples.
- Jan's upgraded suit, in addition to increased radiation resistance, also offers a permanent increase in the suit's energy reserve. The first such upgrade can extend it to 8 energy bars.
